Digital-PDF Sewing Pattern (no paper sent): Retro-Style Double-Wrap Dress
Pattern code: mc2-2042
This dress features a beautifully dynamic, vintage-inspired silhouette built from two coordinated wrap layers.
At the core is a fitted sheath-style underdress with a clean, round neckline and sleeveless bodice, creating a smooth, flattering base. Over this sits a full, circular wrap overskirt that crosses at the front and ties at the waist, forming a softly cinched shape highlighted by a decorative waist ring.
Both layers wrap independently, allowing an adjustable fit through waist ties at the back. The contrast between the structured inner layer and the flowing outer skirt creates elegant movement, with the upper layer opening at the front to reveal the underdress beneath.
CUSTOMISATION IDEAS:
This design offers plenty of room for creativity. Make the inner dress and outer wrap in contrasting colours to emphasise the layered effect, or use the same fabric throughout for a more refined look. The decorative waist ring can be replaced with a knot, bow, buckle, or button detail. You can also vary the length from a shorter, playful version to an elegant midi or maxi style. For extra drama, try a floaty outer wrap in chiffon, georgette, or another lightweight fabric over a more structured underdress. Contrast binding, topstitching, or decorative edging can also give the dress a more defined vintage character.

Suitable Materials:
Light- to mid-weight fabrics with soft drape work best for this design. Choose woven fabrics such as viscose/rayon, crepe, challis, lightweight linen blends, soft cotton lawn, or satin-feel dress fabrics. Soft jersey or other knit fabrics with good drape can also work well, especially if you prefer a more fluid, comfortable finish. Avoid very stiff or bulky fabrics, as they may reduce the graceful wrap effect and skirt movement.
* Size S: 130 × 355 cm (52" × 142")
* Size 2XL: 150 × 375 cm (60" × 150")
It's impossible to give fabric amounts for every fabric type and every size. For clarity, I provide yardage for both the smallest and largest sizes, based on a suitable fabric width. To stay on the safe side, you may follow the largest cutting layout for any other size.
To find out the AMOUNT for a particular FABRIC in your size, you might like taking your pattern to the fabric shop – their assistants are always happy to help.
Otherwise, do it yourself:
- stretch a flat bed-sheet on a table or floor;
- fold it to the width of the material you plan to use;
- arrange ALL pattern pieces paying attention to the grainline desired-directions and seam allowances;
- measure the length you have got.
